The honest JLPT split

Japan has 812 universities actively recruiting students. Language expectations are set per institution, never nationally: Japanese-taught degree programs commonly expect JLPT N2 or above, while a growing number of English-taught programs need no JLPT at all. Always verify the exact requirement with the university — and remember admission is a university decision, not a visa.

If your program is Japanese-taught

Practise the tested JLPT sections and track your readiness against each level's real pass mark before committing to a target. There is a MEXT scholarship for study in Japan; its participating-university list is not publicly published, so we will not invent one — check studyinjapan.go.jp for the official scholarship guidance.
